Calmino Research Project
Our Research Aim
The aim of the research project is to assess the effect of chemically characterized Aloe barbadensis Mill. (Aloe vera) intervention in patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS as well as investigating the underlying mechanism of action for the potential effect of Aloe vera. Further, we aim to identify the bioactive component(s)/ composition of the Aloe vera responsible for its potential therapeutic effect in gut disorders.
The general aim is to assess the therapeutic effect of Aloe barbadensis Mill. (Aloe vera) intervention in patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS (A) and evaluate whether potential effects may be mediated by altering immune cell activity and/or modulating intestinal microenvironment (B), as well as characterizing the bioactive composition of the Aloe vera responsible for its potential therapeutic effect in gut disorders (C).
This research project will help in increasing therapeutic effectiveness of Aloe vera extract in gut disorders and strengthen current indications for PROIBS® a Medical Device for the treatment of IBS symptoms.
Further the results from this project will form a foundation for using chemically characterized Aloe vera extract as a potential complementary therapy in chronic inflammatory diseases of the gut such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
