Healthy gut
Understanding the mechanisms of a healthy bowel function provides a foundation for optimising targeted interventions for restoring gut health
Some facts
What to know about Inflammation
IBS Symptoms
IBS affects the large intestine, causing symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and bowel changes.
IBS Triggers
Likely triggered by gut-brain communication issues, gut microbiome changes, and sensitivity in the digestive system.
IBS Treatment
Treatment often involves diet changes, stress reduction, lifestyle adjustments, and medication to relieve symptoms.

Focus
Research area
Gastrointestinal tract
The gastrointestinal tract is a vital organ that balances two complex and crucial tasks: facilitating digestion and nutrient absorption while maintaining immune homeostasis. This means tolerating harmless elements like food antigens, commensal bacteria, and self-antigens, while mounting effective immune responses against harmful microorganisms.
The role of mucosal barrier
The intricate balance relies on a highly efficient mucosal barrier and the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), which coordinates immune responses with remarkable precision. The mechanisms underlying this balance remain unclear, making continuous research essential to deepen our understanding of gut-related disorders
Progress
Clinical trials and ongoing research
Our ongoing projects
The main focus of our research is to investigate the role of gut microbiota and metabolite production in immune system regulation. The research also explores how immune cells coordinate immune responses in health and disease and examines how diet and external factors affect gut immune homeostasis.
Studies
Our research highlights the primary components of the mucosal immune system and their role in coordinating immune responses to tolerate harmless elements like food and commensal bacteria while fighting harmful microorganisms.
